About The Sewing & Vacuum Center

Originally established in the 1950’s The Sewing and Vacuum Center began its life as the Bowling Green site of The Singer Sewing Center. At the time it was located in the Downtown Square area where it remained for fifteen years, until it was moved to the old Bowling Green Mall.

In 1979 the Singer Company sold the store to P.R. Snyder, and since that time, the store has remained independently owned and operated. Mr. Snyder relocated the business to the Fairview Plaza in 1984 and then sold it to Phyllis Wilson. Seven years later, Ms. Wilson moved the shop to the Tower Place Shopping Center on Scottsville Rd., and then three years after to its present location at 1575 Campbell Lane.

The name was changed from The Singer Sewing Center to The Sewing and Vacuum Center in 2001, and was bought by Paulette and Jared Madison in 2004. Paulette and Jared, a mother and son team, have owned the business ever since.

The Kentucky Quilt Company is located inside the store which carries quilting fabrics, books, and patterns. We also sell several high quality lines of vacuum cleaners, sewing machines and accessories. We offer repair and tune-up services, group classes and private lessons.
